Grimm To Disney

                                                                Rapunzel? Is That You? This cartoon has a great use of problems everyone must deal with. Including paying taxes and dealing with the government along with insurance companies in general. I picked this cartoon because of its humor with multiple fairy tales and how they can use a play of words to create humor out of something most dread. It uses the three little pigs with wanting a new home again because of the big bad wolf blowing it down, along with Peter Pan not wanting to pay taxes at all due to him never growing old, and with the Seven Dwarfs not able to do a short form. Lastly, the cartoon uses Rapunzel and how they wont have time to get her processed but that doesn’t matter because she loves using “extensions” this play of words touches on getting more time for something and the actual hair extension where people can use them to make their hair longer. Week 11: November 11-15 Three fairy tales  “Bluebeard” by Charles Perrault  and “Flitcher’s Bird”, “The Robber Bridegroom” by the Grimm brothers while these tales are completely separate the main story line  within them are very similar. All three stories tell the tale of a woman about to marry what she thinks is a good man but in reality, all three men is a murderer. The men within the stories plans to lure their brides and then killing her in each a unique and different way. The Robber Bridegroom wants to cook and eat her, Bluebeard kills his bride by cutting her throat, and lastly Fitcher’s Bird wants to chop his bride into pieces. Within all three stories we can see that the men are murderous and are criminals, and how the women within these tales were very innocent and naive . My favorite tale out of the three is Fitcher’s Bird I loved the sibling dynamic within the story, I have a younger sibling and I feel like within a lot of the tales the older sibling saves everyone.

Week 11: November 1- 10 Hansel and Gretel The Grimm’s fairy tale of “Hansel and Gretel” and the MGM version had many similarities but also differences. Overall the moral and lesson of the fairy tale  remained the same as well as all the characters and their names. The witch still captures the children and Gretel is the one that saves them from her eating them. Also, both versions had a famine within them which is the reason for most of the family’s issues. Some differences within the story is the stepmother within the Grimm’s version convinces her husband to take Hansel and Gretel to woods and attempts to leave them two different times. The second attempt worked, and the children were then captured by the witch. Within the MGM version the stepmother is their mother and she send the children to the woods to collect berries for dinner since they had let the donkey in the house and he then ate their dinner. Week 10 October 28- November 1 Little Red Cap with a Twist This comic by Bladerduck Comics shows a very social issue relating to the timeless story of “Little Red Cap”. The story from Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm describes a mother telling a little girl (little red cap) to take bread and wine to grandma’s house within the forest. During little red cap’s walk she comes across a wolf who strays her off her path then goes to the grandma’s house eats her then dresses like her to try and eat the little girl. He achieves this but then a hunter comes and saves little red cap and the grandmother. This comic shows the social issue of self-image due to social media. Using a play on one of the most iconic lines from the original text “Oh, grandma what big ____ you have!”. The wolf within the story says very snarky remarks to little red cap so to see that it affects the wolf in a negative way is extremely funny and interesting.
