Snow White and Her Differences The fairy tale “Snow White “has been modified and contaminated over history, the two versions of the story that most people know about is Walt Disney’s and the Grimm brothers. Through the two versions there is many differences including: Disney:   Snow White is an orphan, both parents are dead.   Prince appears in the beginning and sings a love ballad to snow white while riding a white horse. The dwarfs are hard working and has names and characteristics evil queen only comes once with poisonous apple. Prince kisses snow white awake. Queen dies from trying to crush dwarfs with a boulder.   Snow white cleans the house hoping the dwarfs will let her stay. Grimm Version: Snow White’s dad is alive but hardly mentioned.   Prince only shows up at the end dwarfs don’t have names or much personality evil queen comes 3 times with lace, a comb, and then an apple.   Dwarfs negotiate a contract to let snow white stay if she did

“Rages to Riches”                                                                       Within the wonderful fairy tale of Cinderella, her story is primarily a “rages to riches” story through magic and marriage. The heroine goes from being dehumanized from her father and stepmother to marrying the prince. Now as much as we all would love magic in real life, it is simply unrealistic. Within today’s society someone reaching success through marriage can happen but is just not common. People from a lower class does not usually make it out of poverty, it can happen, but it is extremely hard to accomplish that. For example, education. Every profession now requires a degree of some sort. But in order to get that degree you need to go to college but the loans alone to attend the school can cost more than what that profession pays. So, even though you have a degree and a job chances are you are not jumping up social classes. Now this isn’t impossible, if you are looking at some of the

What is a Fairy Tale? The definition of a fairy tale according to Google a fairy tale is “a children's story about magical and imaginary beings and lands.” To most people that is what a fairy tale is but to the Grimm brothers they are so much more. They are history, they teach lessons, and are a way to escape the world and all the ongoing issues. Magic is the heart of every fairy tale, without magic is it really a fairy tale? Almost no one in a fairy tale is surprised when an animal talks, when the ‘hero’ has supernatural powers, or when fairies gives a gift to newly born child. There is no element of disbelief or wonder in a fairy tale when it comes to magic and there are no questions asked by anyone in the fairy tale or anyone reading it. For example, “Sleeping Beauty” she pricks her finger and is put to sleep for 100 years but does not age even after she awakens. Or why the big bad wolf in “Little Red Riding Hood” can talk to her. Now with every fairy tale there is a

What Is Fact What Is Fiction? The film “The Brothers Grimm” directed by Terry Gilliam is easily misinterpreted for how Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm acted and what they did in real life. Within the movie the brothers are dysfunctional schemers with two random sidekicks who go through towns putting on shows that convince residents they are getting rid of demons. Through the many bars it is shown Wilhelm is cynical, outgoing, and enthusiastic; while Jacob is sensitive, reserved, and timid. While the brothers were schemers, they did within the movie search for fairy tales which is about the only thing the brothers did in real life. According to the text “The Brothers Grimm” by Zipes who within the book tells readers what the brothers did and how they are so significant to history. The brothers did not go around through town to town scheming innocent people for money, they worked extremely hard to support their family especially once their parents died. Due to their father’s death hap

Since I was a little girl, I have loved Disney and everything about it. Disney has been a huge influence on my childhood. So, as soon as I read the course description I was immediately intrigued. I also felt with my other academically challenging courses that a course about Disney would be an interesting and awesome thing to learn about. I've been to Disney 8 times in my life and has always loved Disney but never questioned about who came up with the stories, and why?   During this semester I'm hoping to have a better understanding of the decisions and changes Disney has made with some of their most classic characters. I also am hoping to understand who the Grimm brothers were and their significance to not only Disney but to German and literature history. Everyone knows Disney or some type of fairy tale written by the Grimm brothers, but nobody really knows who the brothers are or anything about them.    My favorite fairy tale is Sleeping Beauty. My reas
